GE and Virtual College worked together to develop an e-learning solution to support their
Continuation Training. Every two years staff need to undertake Continuation Training covering
aspects such as Product Quality, Human Factors, Changes Within the Organisation and Quality Systems Procedures, in order to renew the license to
work on aircraft engines. This process is controlled by the Civil Aviation Authority and includes
a formal learner assessment.
A key requirement of the solution was the need to make the process 'fun' and 'engaging', which
was achieved by a high level of animation and the introduction of a number of user challenges,
which culminated in the successful take off of a Boeing 747 with its GE engines roaring as it flew
into the sunset sky.
“From experience I know that the biggest barrier to successfully implementing a training programme that
is essentially technology driven is the 'fear factor', particularly if the target audience have always
been used to a traditional delivery format. Through the efforts of Virtual College in producing a training
package in such a comprehensible and empathetic format I can unequivocally report that this traditional
barrier has been well and truly negotiated. I believe together with Virtual College we have established a
benchmark in how to make even the most mundane subject interesting, participative and fun to learn."
