Kostal: Operator Training
Challenge:
Kostal are world leading manufacturers of electric switches for the automotive industry, supplying companies such as Nissan, Land Rover and Ford, to name but a few. The quest for perfection, linked to perpetual new product introduction, stimulates an on-going drive for continuous improvement which ultimately drives the need for continual operator skills development.
Solution:
Following attendance on the Virtual College 4 day e-learning champions course and the adoption of the TMS the Kostal team have developed a range of e-learning resources to support staff induction and production line assembly. Assembly instructions have been allocated to each operator training records, which are then linked to online assessments. These assessment validate a wide range of areas including component part recognition, part number understanding, procedure knowledge and quality failures. Images of actual components, sub assemblies and faults have been taken using digital cameras, and then built into the assessment process.
Benefits:
The flexible nature of the TMS enables learning resources and associated assessments to be continually updated to reflect the latest product assembly methods and workmanship standards. The assessment process helps pin-point specific areas of mis-understanding and enables issues to be rapidly addressed.
